In cooperation with Johannes Puch (workshop leader) and the Educational Lab.
As part of the project Photo | Glitches, technical disruptions were explored as artistic design elements in photography. The starting point was an engagement with errors and glitches as welcome social, technological, and cultural interruptions of everyday life. Students from class 4E/B at BRG Klagenfurt-Viktring experimented with photographic glitches, which can occur accidentally or be intentionally created, both analog and digital.
On the first workshop day, an exhibition visit at Kunstraum Lakeside introduced the topic. In conversation with curator Gudrun Ratzinger, the students discussed social glitches and technologies of image generation. Afterwards, they explored visual implementations of disruptions with photographer Johannes Puch at the Educational Lab. The focus was less on technical perfection and more on the joy of experimentation. Various creative techniques were tested: pinhole photography, working with motion blur, underexposure, shooting through treated glass plates, and perforating a film roll, which was developed in time for the second session. On the second workshop day, four groups rotated through stations to try all techniques and implement their own ideas.
From the large number of photographs, ten motifs were selected and produced as postcards, reflecting the students’ openness and spirit of experimentation.
Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education within the OeAD program culture connected ‒ cooperations between schools and cultural institutions.
